Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
